This summer I signed up for metal sculpting class, so I could learn how to weld and learn the nuances of working with this versatile element. As lofty as my ideas are, I originally thought it would be cool to make a hanging chair shaped like a leaf, but I hadn't realized how difficult it would be to bend two exactly symmetrical curves with the tools in the shop. So, I scrapped that idea.
Instead, I took on the venture to create a hanging screen/divider in the shape of a window. I had a couple curves to work with, so I used one of them as the top section of the screen. Then I took some sheet metal, cut strips, and used them to create an art deco inspired design within the window shape.
I'm in the final stages of the project and I will be posting pictures of the finished product in the next few days. I'll be going to Home Depot to find a dremmel tool to sand the tight corners, some gold and black s pray paint to give it some color, and some chain to hang it with. Wish me luck!
